Peninsula Golf Course plan change and rezoning

UPDATE: 8 August 2013
The Plan Change 159 hearing was held from Tuesday 9 April to Friday 12 April 2013. The Commissioners have now approved the Plan Change, which allows for the development of a 520 Lot Master Plan.

PLDL Limited have made an application to amend the Rodney Section of the Auckland Council District Plan (Plan Change 159), to change the zoning of the 44ha Peninsula Golf Course site at Red Beach from ‘Future Urban’ to ‘Medium Intensity Residential’. In addition a Scheduled Site and Master Plan will detail the proposed future development of the site.
When the Plan Change is successful the Peninsula Golf Club will relocate to a newly developed golf course at Wainui Road. This proposal is the single most significant event in the Club’s 55 year history, following its very humble inception over half a century ago.
In 1956 the newly formed Peninsula Golf Club purchased three pieces of farmland to establish the current golf course. At this time there was some residential development in the area, but the majority of the surrounding area was farmland. The Club could not afford the land purchases in total, so approximately 64 residential sections on the road perimeter of the course were developed for sale, to in-part fund the purchase of the land.
Over time, further golf course land has been sold for a variety of purposes, and today, the request for a change in zoning is proposed, to enable up to 520 residential units to be developed on the current golf club land.
What we’re doing
We are requesting a Plan Change to change the zoning of the land from Future Urban to Residential.  The request to change the zoning is accompanied by a Master Plan which shows 509 residential units (up to a maximum of 520) being developed on the site.
Why we’re doing it
The Peninsula Golf Club can no longer afford to stay where it is, and has elected to build a course in a new location.

Positive outcomes of the rezoning
Rezoning of the land comes with a number of benefits, including improved infrastructure, an effective stormwater system, and a better environment for birdlife in the area.
